Natural Gas Development Options

Cyprus is well placed as an EU country with a stable environment to become the centre for exploration, drilling, logistics, service and supply companies who would come to the region to support East Med production and operations. What is clear is that the gas industry and regional geopolitics are in a state of flux. All options are kept on the table and reviewed regularly, responding to opportunities as they appear, particularly as the global energy market is volatile and is undergoing continuous change. Efforts in Cyprus continue for the development of the Aphrodite gas field.
The Noble/Delek Development Plan of the Aphrodite Gas Field

Efforts in Cyprus continue for the development of the Aphrodite gas field. Noble/Delek/BG submitted their development plan to the Cyprus government, detailing all possible export options. These include:
An important aspect of the development of the Aphrodite gas field is the supply of gas to Cyprus for electricity generation. The required quantities are small, less than 1 bcm per year, and as a result this would be possible only if developed in conjunction with the chosen export option for the Aphrodite gas field.
Another option is the development of a petrochemical industry, but this will depend on the discovery of additional gas resources so that cheap gas can be brought to the island. An LNG plant at Vasilikos could then spearhead such a development.

What is clear is that the gas industry and regional geopolitics are in a state of flux. All options are kept on the table and reviewed regularly, responding to opportunities as they appear, particularly as the global energy market is volatile and is undergoing continuous change.
